One of the questions I help every expecting couple answer is where they’d like to have their maternity session. There are so many beautiful locations throughout the Texas Hill Country, and each one has a completely different feel. As much as I love photographing in open fields or among the wildflowers, I always find myself coming back to creekside maternity sessions. They’re one of my favorite places for couples who want their maternity photos to feel natural and relaxed.

There are so many beautiful places for maternity photos around Austin, Wimberley, and the Texas Hill Country, and every location brings something a little different to your gallery. Some couples love the wide-open feel of a field at sunset, while others are drawn to a more city setting. Creekside maternity sessions have always been one of my favorites because they naturally create a slower, more relaxed pace. Instead of walking from one location to another or trying to fit several stops into your session, we can stay in one beautiful area and let the scenery do the work. The combination of the water, cypress trees, and natural shade gives us lots of different backdrops without feeling like we’re chasing the next photo.

One thing I almost always recommend is planning your session around sunset if your schedule allows. The light during golden hour is one of the biggest reasons so many outdoor maternity sessions have that soft, timeless feel. At creekside locations, it becomes even more beautiful as the sun filters through the trees and reflects off the water. It’s always worth planning around if we can because it makes such a difference in the final gallery.

One thing I always help my maternity clients with before their session is choosing outfits. It might seem like a small detail, but what you wear can have a big impact on how your photos feel. For creekside sessions, I usually recommend soft colors and fabrics with a little movement. They photograph beautifully against the natural surroundings and they create a timeless look that you’ll still love years from now. More than anything, though, I want you to wear something that feels comfortable and makes you feel like yourself. When you’re not worrying about adjusting your outfit or whether it’s flattering, it shows in your photos.

Every couple has a different vision for their maternity photos, so I don’t think there’s one location that’s perfect for everyone. But for couples who are looking for a setting that feels relaxed and natural, I find myself recommending creekside locations again and again. If you’re looking for a Texas Hill Country maternity photographer, Austin maternity photographer, or Wimberley maternity photographer, I’d love to help you find a location that feels like the perfect fit for your family. I typically recommend scheduling maternity sessions between 31 and 36 weeks, and if you’re hoping for a golden hour session during the spring or fall, it’s always a good idea to reach out early since those dates tend to fill quickly. Reach out today and together we’ll choose a location that fits your vision and create a gallery you’ll love looking back on long after this season has passed.
