The Preserve at Canyon Lake Wedding | Inez and David

I’ve photographed weddings at several beautiful venues throughout the Texas Hill Country, and The Preserve at Canyon Lake is one I always enjoy coming back to. One of the biggest reasons is that the venue gives couples so much variety without making the day feel complicated. You’re not spending half the day driving from place to place or trying to squeeze photos into a tiny window of time. That was definitely true for Inez and David’s The Preserve at Canyon Lake wedding. Every part of the celebration was centered around spending time with the people they love, soaking in the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, and enjoying each moment instead of rushing through it. It was exactly the kind of wedding I love photographing, and The Preserve was such a great fit for everything they had envisioned.

One Thing I Love About The Preserve

One thing I always appreciate about photographing weddings here is how easy it is to move through the day. There are beautiful spaces for getting ready, a gorgeous ceremony site, and plenty of portrait locations throughout the property. We never had to leave the venue to find a beautiful location, which meant Inez and David weren’t away from their guests for very long. I think that’s something couples don’t always think about when they’re choosing a venue. It’s not just about whether a place is pretty. It’s about how the space allows your wedding day to unfold.

Building a Timeline That Doesn’t Feel Rushed

Instead of constantly checking the clock, Inez and David had time to be present. They could spend a few extra minutes with family while getting ready, enjoy the ceremony without worrying about falling behind, and take portraits without feeling like they needed to hurry back. As an Austin wedding photographer, that’s something I always encourage my couples to prioritize whenever possible. A little extra time throughout the day almost always leads to a more relaxed experience.

The Preserve at Canyon Lake Wedding Portraits Around the Property

One of my favorite parts of the day was walking around the property with Inez and David after the ceremony. We didn’t have a long list of must-have locations or spend the afternoon hiking across the venue. Instead, we simply took advantage of the beautiful scenery that was already there. One of the things I like about The Preserve is that every area feels a little different, so your gallery ends up with plenty of variety without feeling like you’ve been gone for hours taking photos. That also meant Inez and David were able to get back to cocktail hour and spend more time with the people who had come to celebrate with them.

Don’t Skip Sunset Portraits

If I could give one piece of advice to couples getting married at The Preserve, it would be to leave a little room in your timeline for sunset portraits. It doesn’t have to be a long time – sometimes even fifteen minutes is enough. The light changes so much as the sun starts to set over the Hill Country, and those few minutes often end up creating some of my favorite images from the entire day. At Inez and David’s wedding, we stepped away for a short portrait session while their guests continued enjoying cocktail hour, and before they knew it, they were back celebrating with everyone again.
