NOW BOOKING FOR 2026 & 2027!
October 8, 2026
After months of barely any rain here in the Texas Hill Country, the last thing I expected for this August senior session was a little bit of everything when it came to the weather! As a Wimberley senior photographer, I’m used to working around unpredictable Texas weather, but this evening definitely kept me on my toes. We had a beautiful session planned for this Wimberley senior, and with no rain in the forecast, I wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary. But by the time I left my house, the sky had gotten noticeably darker, the wind was picking up, and I started wondering what kind of evening we were about to have.
Well, as it turns out, we were in for one of the most memorable senior sessions I’ve photographed in a while! Between the wind, a few unexpected sprinkles, a rainbow, and an absolutely incredible sunset, the weather gave us more variety than I ever could have planned. And honestly, it’s sessions like this that remind me why I love being a Wimberley senior photographer so much. You really never know what you’re going to get with Texas weather, but sometimes that’s half the fun!

If you’ve spent any time in Central Texas during August, you know just how hot and dry our summers can be. We’d gone months without any meaningful rain, so the possibility of a storm wasn’t exactly on my radar when we were planning this session. There wasn’t even rain in the forecast that day, which made the sudden change in weather even more surprising.
As I headed out, I could see the darker clouds moving in and feel the wind starting to pick up. I knew we might have to be a little flexible depending on what the weather decided to do, but I also knew those clouds could give us some really interesting light for her portraits.
One thing I’ve learned after photographing so many sessions as Wimberley senior photographer is that a cloudy sky doesn’t automatically mean we’re going to have bad lighting. In fact, some of my favorite portraits have happened on evenings when the weather looked a little questionable at first!

I know wind isn’t usually something people get excited about when they’re getting their senior pictures taken, especially when they’ve spent time getting their hair ready! But for this session, it actually worked so well in our favor.
Instead of fighting it, we took advantage of the movement it created in her hair, and I absolutely loved how those portraits turned out. It gave us something a little different from the traditional senior photos where everything is perfectly in place, and the movement made the images feel so natural.
One of the things I love about being a Wimberley senior photographer is getting to work with whatever the Texas Hill Country gives us on any particular evening. I always have a plan going into my sessions, but I’m also paying attention to what’s happening around us and looking for opportunities to try something different. Sometimes that means changing where we’re standing because the light looks better somewhere else, and sometimes it means realizing that the wind we weren’t expecting is actually making the photos even better!

Just when I thought we’d already gotten some pretty incredible photos, we started getting a few sprinkles. Nothing that completely interrupted the session, thankfully, but enough to remind us that the weather was definitely doing its own thing that evening. And then, somehow, we got a rainbow!
After such a long stretch without rain, I couldn’t believe our luck. Not only had we managed to keep photographing through all the changing weather, but now we had a rainbow to work into her senior pictures, too. That’s definitely not something I can promise when planning a session, and it made the evening even more fun.
I love that she’ll have these photos to look back on because they’re such a fun reminder of what her senior session was actually like. We could have planned the outfits, chosen the location, and picked the perfect time of day, but there’s absolutely no way we could have planned for that rainbow to show up!

You would think that after the dark clouds, wind, sprinkles, and rainbow, we’d already had enough excitement for one senior session. Apparently, Texas had one more surprise for us! As the evening went on, the clouds started changing again, and we ended up with the most gorgeous sunset. The sky looked completely different from when we’d started, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish the session.
One of my favorite things about looking through this gallery is seeing just how much variety we got from a single evening. The earlier portraits have a completely different look from the ones we took with the rainbow, and then the sunset photos feel different all over again. We didn’t need to change locations or plan anything elaborate to get that variety. The weather did a pretty amazing job of giving us something new to work with throughout the session.
And after spending so much of the summer wishing we’d get a little rain, I have to say this was a pretty great way for it to finally make an appearance!

I know how much planning goes into senior pictures, from choosing outfits to getting your hair and makeup ready, so I completely understand why seeing dark clouds before your session might make you nervous. And of course, if there’s severe weather or conditions that aren’t safe, we’ll absolutely make another plan.
But a little wind or a passing sprinkle doesn’t always mean we need to reschedule. Sometimes those changing conditions give us opportunities we wouldn’t have on a perfectly clear evening.
This session was such a good example of that. We went into it expecting a typical August evening in Wimberley and ended up with a gallery full of completely different lighting, movement, and backgrounds. I couldn’t have predicted any of it, but I’m so glad we got to experience it!
That’s also why I like to leave a little room for flexibility during my sessions. I’ll always help my seniors plan their locations, outfits, and timing beforehand, but once we’re actually photographing, I want to be able to take advantage of those unexpected moments when they happen.

Getting to photograph seniors who have grown up here in Wimberley is one of my favorite parts of being a Wimberley senior photographer. There’s something fun about helping them celebrate such a big milestone in a place that’s already been part of so much of their lives, and I love getting to know each senior and figuring out how we can make their photos feel personal to them.
This August session is definitely one I won’t be forgetting anytime soon, and I think it’s a perfect reminder that some of the best parts of a senior session aren’t necessarily the things we plan ahead of time. We can choose a great location, put together outfits, and schedule everything around the best light, but sometimes a little unexpected Texas weather gives us something even better!
